On Thursday, 21 March, starting at 3:00 p.m., the B2B Design Shaker Opening ceremony took place on the programme stage in Hall 3 with the announcement of the winners of the Furniture of the Year 2019 competition, traditionally organized by the Czech Furniture Makers Association.
Pavel Anděl started the Opening by welcoming the guests, namely Ing. arch. Maria Wohlrabová, director of the set of spring fairs, Ing. arch. Hana Medková, curator of the DESIGN SHAKER exhibition, Doc. Ferdinand Chrenka, academic sculptor – Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava – Head of Studio and chairman of the Grand Prix expert committee, Iva Bastlová, designer – Model Flat exhibition, “Digital Romanticism”, Patrick Heijnen, International Account Manager of ARTE, Ing. Tomáš Lukeš, Secretary of the Czech Furniture Makers Association, and Ing. Martin Čudka, President of the Czech Furniture Makers Association.
The director of the set of fairs Maria Wohlrabová presented the news of this year’s set of fairs and their development. The curator Hana Medková talked about the criteria used to choose companies for Design Shaker and about what she found the most interesting this year. Ferdinand Chrenka spoke about what he considers to be characteristic for Czech and Slovak design. He also opened the exhibition of luminaires by the students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín, organized as part of the Light in Architecture exhibition in Hall 6.
The ARTE representative Patrick Heijnen also gave an interesting presentation, introducing a unique collection created in cooperation with the MOOI brand – Extinct Animals. It was within DESIGN SHAKER that it was first presented in the Czech Republic.
The designer Iva Bastlová presented her Model Flat project, called “Digital Romanticism”, which was located in Entrance Hall II and which was designed by the author herself. She also provided guided tours of the project every day.
The last part of the Opening was the aforementioned announcement of the winners of the Furniture of the Year 2019 competition, which was conducted by representatives of the Czech Furniture Makers Association.
